Protected Area
Eastern High Atlas National Park
Made up of very rugged mountain ranges, this park extends over an area of 49,000 ha between the relatively humid zone in the north, and the dry and desert zone in the south of the eastern High Atlas. The park is drained by several wadis that constitute a dense and entangled hydrographic network.
The northern slopes of the park are covered by a beautiful cedar forest in association with the holm oak, the maritime mountain pine, the thuriferous juniper and the Phoenician juniper. Above 3000 m of altitude, the flora is represented by vegetation in cushions. The harsh terrain of the park offers refuge and safety to a large population of Cuffed Mouflons, Cuvier's Gazelles and the last Panthers.
