The strategic areas of research at INRA cover:

• The characterization, preservation and valorization of natural resources;

• Improving the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of agricultural production;

• Improving the quality, valorization and diversification of plant and animal productions;

• Analysis of the social demand of production systems and agricultural policies linked to regional and local development.

At the operational level, these axes are divided into a set of complementary research programs classified into two main groups, namely:

• Regional research programmes designed to better meet the needs of the various production chains and to cover the entire national territory with its various agrosystems; 

•  Thematic programs with a national scope that instead have a horizontal connotation serving all agrosystems and production chains.
