Perdicaris

The Perdicaris site is a nipple in the sandstone Numidian tablecloth, offering a northern slope overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. The soils are very deep, highly evolved, constituting a very privileged area for the region. This site is located in the immediate vicinity of the agglomeration of Tangier, representing a “green” enclave within the urban perimeter.

It is characterized by a very luxuriant natural vegetation with zene oak, cork oak and oak kermes with artificial pine and eucalyptus globulus populations representing the oldest plantations in Morocco (1918). As this place is home to an interesting and original vertebrate fauna on the scale of Morocco (presence at sea level of certain species with a mountain tendency...), its main faunistic interest undoubtedly comes from the transcontinental migrations of birds between Europe and Africa between Europe and Africa through the Strait of Gibraltar.

It is therefore a particularly interesting site because it is located at the junction of the two maritime facades of Morocco: the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. This is where encounters take place between the fauna typical of the ocean plains (and containing many endemics) and those of the Rif and the Mediterranean regions in the north of the country. From an ecological and biogeographical point of view, this perimeter is therefore one of the most important in Morocco.
