On December 16 and 17, 2025, the Scientific Institute of Rabat hosted the validation workshop for the Red List of Birds of Morocco. This event, initiated by GREPOM/BirdLife Morocco, brought together a panel of scientific experts, biodiversity managers, and a team from the Department of Sustainable Development.

The primary objective of this meeting was to review and validate the conservation status assessments for avian species, conducted in accordance with IUCN standards and methodology. The discussions, based on the best available scientific data and national expertise, resulted in a consolidated and precise overview of Morocco’s avifauna.

This workshop was a crucial milestone for the development of the National Red List. It provides a rigorous reference framework to guide decision-making, strengthen habitat management, and plan priority protection actions. The success of this workshop demonstrated the importance of synergy between public institutions, civil society, and the academic world in achieving science-based nature conservation.
