This year 2022, the celebration of World Wetlands Day is of particular importance. Indeed, on August 30, 2021, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution 75/317 proclaiming February 2 “World Wetlands Day”.

Wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, freshwater supplies, global economies, and more.

It is urgent to raise national and international public awareness of wetlands in order to stop their rapid disappearance and to encourage conservation and restoration actions.

The 2022 edition of World Wetlands Day will have the theme “Acting for wetlands is acting for nature and humans”. She intends to highlight the importance of ensuring that wetlands are conserved and used rationally and sustainably.
