The Economic, Social, and Environmental Council places biodiversity at the forefront of its strategic priorities for Morocco's sustainable development.

At its 77th regular session held in December 2025, Morocco's Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CESE) examined a major draft opinion entitled “Biodiversity in Morocco: challenges, threats, and opportunities for sustainable development.”

This draft opinion is part of an effort to gain a deeper understanding of the current changes in biodiversity in the Kingdom. The highlights of this initiative are as follows:

  • Systemic analysis: The Council analyzes the complex interactions between the country's ecological systems and socio-economic dynamics.
  • Risk assessment: The study identifies the main threats to Morocco's natural capital, including the impact of human activities and the pressures exerted by climate change.
  • Operational objectives: Through this opinion, the CESE aims to formulate concrete recommendations for promoting biodiversity as a lever for development.
  • Territorial resilience: Emphasis is placed on strengthening the resilience of territories and populations in the face of environmental crises.

This contribution by the CESE consolidates national efforts to align natural resource management with the imperatives of sustainability and preservation of the national biological heritage.
