A new book has just appeared in Arabic on the diversity of plants in Morocco
This book presents a brief overview of plant diversity in Morocco: its basic components of vascular flora and plant formations, legislation and commitments related to this diversity at the national and global levels and the reality of the situation in our country with regard to its management, exploitation and protection in the context of sustainable development taking into account the needs and rights of present and future generations.
Morocco ranks first in the Mediterranean, with a botanical wealth of nearly four thousand vascular species, divided into about a thousand genera and one hundred forty families; with a high rate of endemism affecting twenty percent of species.
The dominant plant formations are organized into nearly forty ecosystems, with forest, pre-forest, steppe, and semi-steppe structures.
Plant diversity in Morocco is under strong pressure, more or less severe depending on the region, due to the excessive exploitation of natural resources, which inevitably leads to the destruction of ecological balance.
