Protected Area
Moulouya river mouth
The site corresponds to a wetland complex that includes the mouth of Oued Moulouya and its floodplain and the adjacent marine strip. It is composed of estuarine habitats extending over a coastal plain, salt swamps, a river channel marked by a Tamarix forest, and coastal marine and dune habitats. This coastal site is characterized by a great diversity of habitats, knowing that it covers five systems (marine, estuarine, fluvial, marsh and lake) and includes coastal dune habitat and some artificial environments.
The bird species of global interest are the Mossier Redstart Phoenicurus moussieri, endemic to North Africa, the marbled Teal Marmaronetta angustirostris, a vulnerable species represented in the site by its highest number in Morocco (around 200 breeding pairs) and the Audouin's Gull Larus audouinii which uses the site as a resting place and 'to have'.
