Mouth of the Oued Drâa

The site is centered on the terminal course of the Oued Draa, the longest Moroccan Atlantic wadi, located at the northern limit of the Sahara and draining a large part of the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas. The site contains coastal marine waters, the cliffs that overlook them and the sandy beach north of the wadi.

The hydrological value of the site lies in the effect of winter floods which attenuate the silting up of the river and ensures the opening of the mouth. The site is also home to several habitats: dunes, brush, permanent bodies of fresh water, aquatic vegetation, sea cliffs and temporary waterways.

As for wildlife, the site is home to a tropical relic of fish Tilapia zillii as well as an endemic Moroccan species of amphibians: Brongerma toad Bufo brongersmai.
