Launch meeting for the update of the national biodiversity strategy
N°9, Rue Al Araar, Section 16, Hay Rayad
10100 Rabat
Morocco
In order to achieve the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), adopted at COP 15 at the CBD in December 2022 in Montreal, Parties are required to take various measures, including translation of the KM-GBF, the update of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), as well as the establishment of a financing plan and a national monitoring framework for the implementation of the NBSAP.
In this perspective, the Department of Sustainable Development has started, with the support of UNDP, the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support (GBF-EAS) project, financed by the Global Environment Facility.
The project will contribute to assessing the coherence of national objectives, notably those of the NBSAP and other national policies linked to biodiversity, with the KM-GBF. It will include the translation of national objectives and the determination of monitoring indicators. In addition, it will facilitate the planning of subsequent stages for the in-depth revision of the NBSAP and the establishment of a national financing plan for biodiversity.
In this regard, and with the aim of informing the members of the National Biodiversity Subcommittee, as well as non-state actors and guaranteeing their active participation in the SPANB alignment process, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development - Department of Sustainable Development organize the presentation meeting of the GBF-EAS project on Thursday February 1, 2024. This meeting constitutes an opportunity to recall the key elements of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, as well as to present the methodological note from the first consultation.
